Camp Lejeune Water Contamination

From 1953 to 1987 the Marines, Sailors, and their families who lived at Camp Lejeune were exposed to TCE and other dangerous chemicals in their tap water.

Water testing found that drinking water sources at Camp Lejeune were contaminated with benzene, trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene, or perchloroethylene (PCE), and vinyl chloride (VC), all of which are known to be carcinogenic or harmful to humans. A significant portion of this community have suffered severe health consequences, such as cancers caused by exposure to these dangerous toxins.

Officials were aware of water contamination at Camp Lejeune but never addressed the problem. For decades, the veterans and families that resided or worked at Camp Lejeune and subsequently developed cancer or a life-threatening disease have been denied justice. Until recently, injured service members and their families have not been able to seek damages for their injuries. The Camp Lejeune Justice Act is a newly signed law that allows service members and their families the ability to recover from injuries related to Camp Lejeune’s Water Contamination.
